Bruce Berg is a graduate of the Juilliard School of Music, where he earned his BS, MM, and DMA degrees. His principal teachers were Josef Gingold, Ivan Galamian, Dorothy Delay, and George Neikrug. Further violin study was with Joseph Szigeti, Nathan Milstein, Paul Makanowitsky, and Sandor Vegh; and chamber music with the Juilliard and Lenox String Quartets, Lillian Fuchs, Felix Galamir, and Maurice Eisenberg.

 

An exponent of the Galamian Violin Method, he is also recognized as an expert in the teaching of The Dounis Violin Method through his extensive study and association with George Neikrug.

 

Before his appointment as Professor of Violin at Baylor University in 1994, Dr. Berg was Artist in Residence at Duke University, where he had served since 1984. Prior to that he taught in the Juilliard Pre-College division, The State University of New York (Binghamton), Colgate University, and Hamilton College. In 1997 he received the Outstanding Teacher Award from Baylor University.

In addition to numerous solo recitals and appearances with orchestras, Dr. Berg performed as first violinist of the Amici, Madison, Ciompi, and Baylor String Quartets, the New York Chamber Soloists, and The Berkshire Chamber Players. He has been Concertmaster of the American, Musica Aeterna, Manticore, and Waco Symphony Orchestras. Dr. Berg has also performed as concertmaster and concerto soloist with Concert Royal, the Bach Ensemble, the Brandenburg Collegium, the Ensemble for Early Music, Banchetto Musicale, and with other prominent period instrument ensembles.
